3, 2, 1... Panic!
'WHO officials have arrived in Beijing to seek information on a suspected SARS case in Guangdong province, China. The male patient from Panyu has gone five days without signs of fever, and lung x-rays show subtle signs of recovery. His condition does not allow for discharge from hospital as yet.'
Phew... Actually, no... frightening. It's CHINA. The greedy socialist, capitalist-wannabe, human-right disrespecting, lying, cheating, conniving, corrupting, land-grabbing, official appointing (Low mung dung!), spaceflight-pretending, tank steamrolling, virus-infecting, waste-filled, starving, arrogant, inhumane name of this country says it all. Now I will panic.
They should appoint me as their official state-sanctioned media advisor since I can actually make lying sound believable. As well as that, I can also cover up from the prying Hong Kong media... which broke the news of SARS in Guangdong the first time round. Tsk tsk China. If you're going to lie in a bid to save temporary face, then why not do it well? It's not like money, George Bush and pet Howard nor the Chinese public are a real problem here...
So, it is important we activate the panic button in response to the consequences of SARS reappearing in the world again. There may actually be 1,300,000,000 cases in China for all we know. If that were to happen, and the Chinese government continues to fake it with the world like a bitch, then they jeopardise worldwide status quos. Any signs of economic recovery in battling Hong Kong will be dashed, as with any chance of me going back there to acquire 'stuff' along with the many more people going to the region for Chinese New Year- January 22, 2004: Year of the Monkey. Not very festive should it be SARSed.
Just as I lavish the idea of going back to Hong Kong to take advantage of the high Australian dollar (5.8 now) and cheap deflated prices over there... for such items on my list as clothes (wintry clothes, and coz clothing here is hell pricey and sizes don't fit), mobile phone, electronics ie. mp3 player, laptops and that, the thought of SARS sours everything. The idea of going back has me excited, hah, seeing friends- some of yous and HK friends, family and also acquiring so much stuff... mwahaha. In with the stuff! In with the lai see (red packets)! But SARS again. Out with any flights coming back to Sydney. In with quarantining. In with the paranoia. Out with my last breath, possibly.
