On the 29th of March, someone knocked my Sea Monkeys tank off my table. As a result, 12 Sea Monkeys were murdered that day. I cried.
I can't help but feel that passion and self-interest is what's letting the Guild down. Nearly ALL Office Bearers (OBs) don't include the Student Guild Logo on their promotional material. How are people meant to recognise that the Student Guild is the one running the April Campaigns? I'm confident enough to say that if we asked a random student on campus, they'd answer in favour of the Source.
What the OBs are doing and working are GOOD relative to their departments, but is doing more HARM to the Guild. The Guild continually stays unrecognised as an Advocacy Group not due to the amount of work put into the administration, but the extremely poor attempts to promote itself. We can hold a successful rally, run departments efficiently, have the most awesome Tharanka yet still fail to recruit members simply because students don't have the knowledge to connect "Student Guild" with the events, services and resources that the Guild provides.
It's already midsemester, and VSU will hit in a matter of months. The Source has already got their act together and have started their transitional phase to issue their yellow cards. It's disappointing to be part of an administration who hasn't taken noticable steps to survive under the VSU environment. OBs should stop thinking about what they're doing and start thinking about what should be done to both benefit the Student Guild and UNSW students.
